In 2011, a mobile game launched that got us hooked on running from crazed monkeys through all manner of temple ruins. A year and a half and 170 million downloads later, Temple Run is arguably one of the biggest iOS games of all time (and we’re still none-the-wiser as to how we offended those monkeys). Now it’s back with a sequel, packing improved graphics and new gameplay mechanics, all while keeping the same simple controls and that addictive pick-up-and-playability.

Joe Danger Touch

Joe Danger first found success on PlayStation and Xbox 360, but now the British developers behind the game have built a brand new adventure from the ground up, designed especially for iOS. You control stuntman Joe on his trusty motorbike as he speeds through the levels, popping wheelies, taking jumps, dodging obstacles and collecting coins – all controlled by your flicks, taps and swipes over more than 20 hours of gameplay.

Bloom.fm is a new and interesting take on mobile music streaming, offering users a service that combines free radio with on-demand and offline streaming. Users can listen to more than 100 genre-based radio stations for free – or for a monthly subscription (£1.49 for 20 tracks, £6.99 for 200 tracks and £13.99 for unlimited) you can "borrow" tunes to store on your phone for offline listening. These can be swapped out for others when you wish as part of Bloom.fm’s ‘borrow, enjoy, return’ system. With over 16 million tracks to choose from, it’s got a catalogue to rival Spotify – and for a limited time it’s offering a free month’s ‘Full Bloom’ subscription to tempt users on board.

BT Smarttalk

BT's Smarttalk app lets you you use your BT calling plan and inclusive minutes from your mobile phone – even when you’re abroad. Once you’ve downloaded the app and linked it to your home phone account, you simply need to have a wi-fi or 3G connection (wi-fi only when abroad) to make use of your landline minutes and cheaper call charges. This means saving money to 0845, 0800 and 0870 numbers, and when you’re on holiday you can make phone calls to friends and family back home for the same price as if you were calling from your living room. Bargain.

BBC Sport

Auntie Beeb's official BBC Sport app keeps you up to date with news, stats, fixtures and results across all the major sporting events in the UK and worldwide, all covered by the formidable BBC Sport team. There all dedicated pages for football, Formula 1, cricket, rugby union, rugby league, tennis and golf, but also another page covering any other major sporting events across the world. Naturally, there's a particular focus on football with live scores, league tables and text commentaries – not to mention all the season’s fixtures and results fully searchable by day, but the app is customisable so you can make quick links to the sports you care about most and skip those that you don’t.
