Best iPhone apps this week
A wonderful way of discovering who has ripped off who in the music world – WhoSampled has taken its 150,000 strong track database and squeezed it into an easy to use iPhone app. Let WhoSampled scan your music library for hours of eye-widening details and videos.
Designed by an ex-QI writer, this word-play app is pretty addictive – guess the meanings of words from around the world from multiple choice answers and get a Word of the Day via push notifications. Check out the Motown example above if you think you're too cool for vocab.
Pocket Planes £Free
The creators of Tiny Tower got planes and airports involved and this is the result. If you can manage your fleet of planes, trade parts with your mates, customise your aircraft and still have some semblance of a social life, you may claim a High Five from any Stuff member of staff.
This free app promises to mow down energy hogs for you by singling out which apps are to blame. Yes, this has been promised before but this project by the AMP Lab at UC Berkeley could do the trick. Carat is still buggy and needs a few days to settle in but after that you should get useful info.
AmpliTube Slash £6.99
Not to be outdone by our other music heroes, former Guns N' Roses guitarist Slash has his own effects app now. It features models of Marshall amps and his signature stompbox effects. Find out more here and keep your eye on Stuff.tv for our axe-wielding attempts in our hands on video.
