Oppo R7s smartphone joins the 4GB club

That seems like an awful lot of RAM for a mid-range Android phone…

4GB of RAM on a smartphone is still something of a rarity, even among flagship devices. Of the big-name phones available in the Middle East, we can think of only the OnePlus 2 and the Samsung Galaxy Edge+.

In the Far East, it’s far more common to equip phones with mega memory. Take the new Oppo R7s, for instance – in truth it’s a mid-range handset, but its designers have still seen fit to stuff in 4GB of RAM.

It’s a 5.5in AMOLED phone that should slot into Oppo’s range somewhere between the R7 (which it very closely resembles, physically) and R7 Plus. Note that, despite all that RAM, it uses a somewhat middle-of-the-road Snapdragon 615 processor rather than one of the higher-spec Qualcomm chips.

Notable features include dual SIM slots and a 3,070mAh battery with fast-charging VOOC technology, which means a five minute charge reportedly gives the R7s two hours of talk time. It gets a respectable 32GB of built-in storage, which can be expanded via microSD card by up to 128GB, and there are 13MP rear and 8MP front cameras.

Oppo hasn’t announced pricing yet, but you can expect the handset to go on sale in the MENA region in November.
