The word coming out of Spain is that the elusive Xbox 360 Elite with its black case could be with us by August.

The Spanish site, La Trifuerza, has it as arriving in stores for 24th August at a hefty 450 Euros – around £300. That’s £20 more than the current UK full system price, though expect the usual pounds price hike when it gets converted to Sterling.

For that you’ll get HDMI output and a beefed up 120GB hard drive but still no Wi-Fi or built-in HD DVD, making it difficult to compare with the wirelessly endowed, Blu-Rayed up PS3 on value points.

There’s been nothing official from Microsoft but after kicking its heels in the US for nearly two months now, it’s surely time the Elite made its European debut.
