Watch spotting: Ryan Gosling wears a luxe smartwatch in Project Hail Mary
Ryan Gosling straps on a TAG Heuer Connected Calibre E5 to save the world in one of 2026's most anticipated sci-fi blockbusters
Ryan Gosling is heading to deep space – and he’s not going alone. The Hollywood star wears a TAG Heuer Connected Calibre E5 in Project Hail Mary. Not a bad choice, as we think it’s one of the best smartwatches around.
The movie is based on Andy Weir’s bestselling novel of the same name.
Gosling plays Ryland Grace, a science teacher who wakes up on a spaceship with no memory of who he is or how he got there. As his memory returns, he discovers his mission: find out what is causing the sun to die – and stop it.
The film is directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, with a screenplay by Drew Goddard. It promises to be a sweeping, emotionally driven journey through deep space, grounded in real science.
TAG Heuer‘s Connected Calibre E5 appears throughout the film. The watch is worn by Grace during moments of analysis, experimentation and decision-making aboard the spacecraft. It features a titanium case paired with a vivid red strap.
Alone in space, with no human contact and limited resources, the watch becomes one of Grace’s few constant companions. In an environment where precision and timing are everything, the smartwatch fits naturally into the story’s world.

Gosling has been a TAG Heuer ambassador since 2021. The Swiss watchmaker says the partnership is built on shared values of resilience, innovation and pushing boundaries.
This is not the first time his work on screen has crossed over with the brand, notable in The Grey Man, as well. But Project Hail Mary marks a deeper integration, with the watch woven directly into the character’s journey rather than simply appearing as an accessory.
TAG Heuer says the Connected Calibre E5 reflects the film’s central tension — where cutting-edge technology meets deeply human emotion.
Project Hail Mary opens in cinemas worldwide on March 20, 2026.
