TalkTalk prepping YouView trial for 2012

One-stop video on demand service coming to a lucky few early next year

Broadband provider TalkTalk’s oft-delayed video on demand service YouView will be gracing the screens of a lucky few in 2012, with a public trial launching in late March or early April. A full launch will follow later in the year.

Cast your minds back and you’ll recall that YouView is the official name for Project Canvas, a service that’ll bring together video on demand services BBC iPlayer, ITV Player, 4oD and Five on Demand in a single EPG. The EPG’s intended to be simple to use, enabling you to scedule recordings and view catch-up video on demand in a single interface. TalkTalk’s hoping to offer a low-cost alternative to the likes of Virgin Media and Sky, or attract Freeview users “looking for a little extra.”
