Samsung’s wild TriFold phone could vanish, just months after launch
Reports suggest Samsung could soon stop selling the Galaxy Z TriFold
Samsung’s ambitious Galaxy Z TriFold might not be sticking around long enough to make our list of the best foldable phones. According to new reports, the company could already be winding down sales of its wallet-busting triple-folding smartphone, only a few months after its launch.
According to Korean publication Donga (via Android Central), Samsung plans to stop selling the Galaxy Z TriFold in South Korea after one final restock. Once the remaining batch sells out, the device reportedly won’t be restocked again.
That could signal the beginning of the end for Samsung’s first tri-fold handset. The phone was released late last year in limited quantities and only in a small number of markets. It launched first in South Korea before expanding to a handful of regions, including China, Singapore, the UAE and the United States – but it never officially arrived in the UK or wider European markets, reinforcing the idea that it was always intended as a limited experiment, rather than a mass-market device.
If the news is true, then it’s a shame. The Galaxy Z TriFold is easily one of the most unusual devices in Samsung’s lineup, standing out from the competition thanks to its sheer size. It starts with a 6.5-inch cover display, but unfolds twice to reveal a much larger 10-inch screen – effectively turning the phone into a small tablet.

Despite its eye-catching design, the TriFold was always positioned as an aspirational showcase, rather than a mainstream device. Reports suggest the handset’s extremely high manufacturing costs made it difficult for Samsung to turn a profit, even with its eye-watering $2,899 price tag.
Rising component prices – including key parts like memory chips – are also believed to have pushed production costs even higher, further reducing the incentive to keep the device in production.
It’s worth noting that Samsung hasn’t officially confirmed that the Galaxy Z TriFold is being discontinued. However, these reports indicate that once the current production run sells out in markets like the US and parts of Asia, the company may not manufacture additional units.
That doesn’t mean Samsung is abandoning foldables altogether, mind. The company is still expected to launch new foldable phones later this year, including updated Galaxy Z Fold and Galaxy Z Flip models, and possibly a new “wide” foldable design.
Instead, the TriFold may simply go down as a proof-of-concept device – a way for Samsung to demonstrate that triple-folding smartphones are technically possible, even if they’re not quite ready for mass-market success just yet.
