Digital SLRs and manual modes are all well and good but sometimes we just want to point, shoot, and hope for the best.Pentax has been listening and come up with the M40 and E40. Two basic cams that still pack a healthy 8.1MP.Keeping it really simple is the dinky E40. It isn't heavy on style but the 3x zoomer does have a fall-off-a-log Green Mode that switches absolutely everything to auto. It also gets the face detection and boosted ISO modes we've seen creeping into other low-end cams. But our fickle eyes have been drawn to the M40 (pictured) also announced today. Not the London to Birmingham M-Way but this update to the svelte M30 snapper. It packs the same user-friendly features into an all-metal package just 18mm thick.Spot it from next month in three colours: silver, pink and yummy brown.Essentials Pentax Optio E40, M40 Price: £TBA On sale: September, August Contact: Pentax Related stories: Pentax K100D Super snapping great Pentax evolves its Optios Pick a pair of Pentax
