Vodafone has just bolstered its mobile TV service with a new 24-hour news and weather service from ITN.

The news bulletins and weather updates, which will come from the Met Office, will be updated every 15 minutes, and can be watched on Vodafone Live! 3G mobiles like the Sony Ericsson W810 (pictured above).

The channels will be added to Vodafone Live!’s ‘variety pack’, which is a mixed bag of Channel 4, Fashion TV, HBO, ChilliTV, Eurosport and UEFA Champions League content and costs £3 per month.

Vodafone’s currently offering the first 30 days free to anyone subscribing to its mobile TV packs, which also include collections of channels from Sky, CNN and Bravo. These bigger Sky Mobile TV packs will set you back a steeper £5 per month.

Vodafone and Orange are both obviously keen to promote mobile TV as 3G’s killer application, although other operators like O2 seem satisfied to wait for live DVB-H broadcasts to evolve.

The 24-hour service also shows ITV waving its multimedia flag with gusto. It’s signed a deal with Microsoft to supply content for its new ‘MSN Video’ channel, and will be helping Blinkx to launch its IPTV service which will let you, create, customise and stream your own TV channel on the net.
