HTC One (M8) for Windows available now in the States

It’s half the price of the Android version, but no word yet on a UK launch

Surprising absolutely nobody after a series of leaks, HTC today announced the HTC One (M8) for Windows, the Windows Phone variant of its flagship Android handset.

What is actually a bit startling is the current promotional price: just US$99 (about £60) with a two-year deal exclusively through Verizon’s website, or about half of what the Android-powered original HTC One (M8) costs. That’s a limited time offer, but it’s a pretty spectacular one.

It’s been nearly two years since HTC’s last Windows Phone handset launch, and considering the low price attached to this version of the excellent Android handset, analyst Daniel Gleeson of IHS Technology speculated to BBC that Microsoft “almost certainly financially supported HTC to make this phone.”

The HTC One (M8) for Windows runs Windows Phone 8.1 out of the box (and has a BlinkFeed app), with a quad-core, 2.3 Ghz Snapdragon 801 processor and 2GB RAM found inside. It features the same Duo camera as its Android equivalent, and likewise offers the Dot View cover as an accessory.

The handset is available today from Verizon in the States, but just like the HTC Butterfly 2 revealed in Japan today, there’s no indication yet of when to expect the HTC One (M8) for Windows in the United Kingdom.

Considering its likelihood of being one of the absolute best Windows Phone devices to date – as the Android version remains one of the top phones in the world right now – we can’t imagine it’ll be too long until it finds its way here.
