GTA 6 official price is lower than feared, but there’s terrible news for lovers of physical media
GTA 6 will cost $80 for the standard edition, $100 for the ultimate edition. And there's bad news for lovers of physical media.
Rockstar Games has confirmed the asking price for GTA 6 and the pre-order arrangements for arguably the most anticipated games console title of all time.
The game, which has been 13 years in the making, will cost $80 for the standard edition, Rockstar says. While that’s more expensive than the $70 standard for current-generation console games on PS5 and Xbox Series X, it doesn’t hit the $100 mark that many observers had predicted.
The only other game to launch at $80 has been Mario Kart World for the Nintendo Switch 2 and, if there was ever a game that could charge a similar premium without too many complaints, it’s this one. The company hasn’t announced how much the game will cost in the UK yet, but it may just be that the price and dollar signs are switched out.
There’ll also be a $100 Ultimate Edition that comes with “extensive collection of premium vehicles, weapons, apparel, and action.” There’s also bonus items that are “threaded across all aspects of Jason and Lucia’s story.” Jason and Lucia are the game’s two main characters, that have been likened to a modern day Bonnie and Clyde in the build up to release.
Pre-orders open tomorrow (June 25) for the title, which will be playable from November 19. Pre-order customers can pre-download the title a week earlier so it’s ready to go as soon as the release opens up.
If you were looking forward to nabbing a physical version of the game, to add to your shelf or get a little bit in trade-in value when you’ve had your fill, then there’s mixed news. There is a physical box you’ll be able to buy from your local games store, but it won’t contain a disc. It’ll harbour a paper download code. Wounded. We care about physical media, man.
In a statement to IGN, Rockstar also confirmed the game is a “single player experience” meaning there’s no support for GTA Online at launch. And there’s no news on the PC version yet either.
