Goodbye t̶p̶y̶o̶s̶ typos! You can finally edit Instagram comments

A long-requested feature arrives, with a slight catch

If you’re rocking one of the best smartphones, chances are that Instagram is one of your go-to apps. And there’s good news – the company has announced that you can now edit Instagram comments.

It’s a small change, but one that people have been requesting for years – and it should make conversations on the app feel a lot less clunky.

There is a slight catch, though. You only get a 15-minute window after posting to make edits. Within that time, you can tweak your comment as much as you like, but once the window closes, your only option is still to delete and start again. Still, it’s a pretty generous time frame, all things considered.

Edited comments will also be labelled as such, so others can see that a change has been made – but unlike some platforms, Instagram won’t show what the original version said.

There are also a couple of other limitations to keep in mind. You can only edit the text of a comment, not any attached images, so if you’ve posted a pic along with your comment, that part is locked in.

Elsewhere, Instagram has also shared updates about restricting certain types of content for accounts owned by teenagers, based on 13+ movie ratings. The move appears to be a response to growing concerns over the impact of Instagram (and social media in general) on young users.

As for the updated comment editing feature, we’ve just checked the Instagram app on Android as well as the desktop version, and couldn’t see an option to edit comments at the time of writing. We do expect the feature to be widely available soon though, so will be keeping an eye out.
