Apple Watch Global Running Day

It’s Global Running Day on June 3, and to celebrate Apple is bringing some special features to Apple Watch and Apple Fitness+, including a limited-edition award on Apple Watch.

On the day, Apple Watch users can earn a limited-edition award when they record a running workout of at least 5K (3.1 miles), using Apple’s own Workout app or any app that records workouts to Health such as Strava or WorkOutDoors.

While Fitness+ is a gym-centric system, the $9.99/£9.99 subscription (also available in Apple One) still has running-centric programs like Yoga for Every Runner to build strength and mobility. There are also treadmill workouts such as Run Your First 5K and Run Your First 10K complete with hills, sprints, and intervals.

We’re expecting the next Apple Watch hardware refresh to take place at Apple’s September Special Event. I think that means we’ll get an Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4 at the very least, possibly with new displays. While the Apple Watch Series 12 is probably an incremental update. I’d expect the Ultra 4 announcement to major on battery life and as usual fitness will be at the heart of what Apple talks about for both watches.

It’s also possible we might also get a refreshed Watch SE as well. We’ll have to see how that works out in September! First of all though, it’s Apple’s developer conference next week where we will get new software for all the company’s devices including watchOS 27, the next-gen iteration of the Watch software. What new features will we get? Rumors suggest these could include improved heart rate tracking, new watch faces (of course), high blood pressure notifications and integration with the refreshed Siri that we’re expecting to launch across the board.

Apple Watch features stacks of running metrics and features anyway, including Custom Workouts that include periods of recovery, Heart Rate Zones to see how intense your workout was, Pacer workouts si you can choose a distance and target finish time and Automatic track detection which knows when you arrive at a standard-shaped outdoor track.
