Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime up for pre-order for £499 from today

Get Android's premier tablet from Currys, PC World, HMV and Tesco – with a mysterious release date

Asus' follow-up to the Eee Pad Transformer, the 10.1in, quad-core Transformer Prime, could just be the hottest tablet in the world right now as far as we're concerned – and it's now available to pre-order from plenty of UK retailers.

Head to Currys, PC World, Carphone Warehouse, HMV, Tesco or Ebuyer sharpish to put your money down on this Android beauty – although perhaps best to wait a few hours as the Prime hasn't come out to play on most of these sites just yet.

The pre-order price of £500 gets you the 32GB model with the keyboard dock – a full fifty quid less than Clove was flogging the Transformer Prime for earlier this week. It's your only option right now, unless you want to go it alone with the 64GB keyboard-less version for £550. But we'd recommend making sure your Transformer Prime package includes both halves of this hybrid wonder-gadget – it'll give you an incredible 18 hours of battery life when combined.

Asus is keeping schtum on the Transformer Prime's release date – which we're optimistically pegging for January – and we're just hoping the delay means an imminent Ice Cream Sandwich update.
