2011 in tech – January

What made the headlines in 2011? Cast your minds back to January for the first instalment of's year in tech

2011 kicked off with a bang, as Motorola unveiled the Atrix – a dual-core powerhouse of a smartphone that Moto claimed was the most powerful phone ever. The specs were impressive – Nvidia's Tegra 2 processor, GeForce graphics and 1GB of RAM.

What wowed everyone who saw it, though, was the LapDock – turning the Atrix into a fully-functioning laptop computer. Like any first generation tech there were one or two niggles – but it points to the future of converged mobile computers. Expect to see more of this sort of thing in 2012.

Also hitting the headlines in January were the first Honeycomb Android tablet in the form of the Motorola Xoom, Bowers & Wilkins'  majestic Zeppelin Air and the Asus Eee Pad Slider.
