I’ve tested 3 of the best home office chairs and this is what I’d recommend

It’s no secret that extended sitting puts stress on your body. These ergonomic chairs all offer rectifying support, but which is best?

Three home office chairs on green and blue background

Home office chairs aren’t exactly the sexiest of conversation topics, but a decent chair to park your rear is important. Reach your mid-30s, and your day will be increasingly ruined by an achy back caused not by injury, but because you’re simply existing. Time is cruel. But when you’ve spent a small fortune securing top gaming hardware, why wouldn’t you also invest in a throne on which to sit while using it?

But finding a chair that’s right for you is fraught with confusing, ill-fitted products. A chair that’s comfy for you might not be for the next person, and you can pay anywhere from $50 / £50 up to the thousands for the privilege of simply having a decent seat. But trust us, a good chair is a worthy investment. Here are a few of our favourites.

Best office chair overall

Stuff Says…

Stuff Verdict: 5/5

Excellent quality combined with a competitive price means it’s hard to resist.

It’s possible to spend an absolute fortune on an office chair, but this Boulies effort makes it clear that, often, you just don’t need to. This black or grey chair is a comprehensive option with superb adjustability-there are three different backrest positions, while you can fine-tune the seat depth, lumbar supportand armrests to suit you. The base is made from durable aluminium, and quality plastics have been used.

Is it any good?

It’s solid, can be put together in about 15 minutes and is highly adjustable, though it can be hard to get it in the right position, and the foot rest isn’t that comfortable for an adult. The only other downsides are really that there are no other colour options and that the chair itself is veryweighty so it’s not great if you need to move it between rooms, for example. But really, this is a terrific choice that you won’t regret.

Best office for comfort

2. FlexiSpot C7

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Stuff Says…

Stuff Verdict: 4/5

A good value chair offering fantastic lumbar support and enhanced comfort owed the large seat pad.

Made from foam and mesh, this good-looking and durable chair offers a substantial 5-year warranty. As well as adjustable seat height, the C7 Air Pro also gives adjustable seat depth and armrests which offer both height adjustment and forward-backwards slide. The vertically adjustable lumbar support cushion detects subtle changes in your body posture and adjusts with you, as you move, or you can lock it at a comfortable angle if you prefer.

Is it any good?

As well as being the most complex piece of furniture I’ve ever built, the FlexiSpot C7 Air Pro is also amongst the most comfortable office chairs I’ve used, too. The lumbar support is second to none and it kept me comfy and cool in the summer heat. Thanks to the large 50.8cm seat, there’s plenty of space for sitting cross-legged, which I like almost as much as reclining with the footrest out-desk nap, anyone?

Best office chair for flexibility

LiberNovi OMNI on white background

3. LiberNovi OMNI

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Stuff Says…

Stuff Verdict: 5/5

It’s an investment, but your lower back will thank you for the OMNI’s infinite adjustability.

This Kickstarter success story is more than just a comfy place to park your posterior; it’s also a personal masseuse, with an electronically controlled lumbar support that can give spinal stretches after a day of being desk-bound. The back rest has 16 pivot points that mould around your body, and the removable battery is good for up to a month of manipulation before it’ll need a charge.

Is it any good?

The wired bits come pre-assembled, so assembly was as easy as a regular office chair. Finding a comfy sitting position was almost harder, because it’s all so minutely adjustable. The neckrest, arm rests and back cushion all move in sync as you lean back. It doesn’t breathe as easily as a mesh-backed chair, but the plush cushioning feels like sitting on a cloud.
