This Lego Star Trek set lets minifigs boldly go where no minifig has gone before – inside the U.S.S Enterprise

Last year, Lego gave us a 3,600-piece brick-built U.S.S. Enterprise. Now, it’s taking us inside the famous ship. But rather than sticking with The Next Generation, the Lego Star Trek U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701 Bridge boldly goes back in time (or, er, a bit less into the future), focusing on the original series.

As the name suggests, this Lego Star Trek set is all about the bridge. It’s a modular display model, so no floor (boo!) but you do get a bunch of familiar elements, such as sliding turbolift doors, a rocking captain’s chair for dramatic battle moments (or when minifig Kirk fancies pretending he’s at a fairground), plus loads of nods to the original series, including a view screen showing a Klingon warrior and four tribbles to dot about the place.

You also get Lego minifig takes on the most famous faces from the original Star Trek series: James T. Kirk, Spock, Nyota Uhura, Hikaru Sulu, Dr. Leonard ‘Bones’ McCoy, Pavel Chekov, Christine Chapel and Montgomery ‘Scotty’ Scott. They’re kitted out with plenty of accessories too, including Spock’s harp, Starfleet communicators and a brand-new Lego phaser element.

Fortunately for the minifigs, they’re not confined to the bridge forever. They can also have a go in what Lego calls a “working transporter function”. Alas, that amounts to a rotating platform rather than literally beaming your crew down to your nearby brick-built quarry. Nor, for that matter, will it transport you somewhere safe when your better half discovers you’ve just spent another $199.99/£159.99 on Lego.

Still, if you’re not too bothered about living long or prospering, this latest Lego Star Trek set is available to pre-order right now and will launch on 1 September.
