Spotify wraps 20 years of listening with your Party of the Year(s)

Spotify's Party of the Year(s) charts your entire history, but there probably aren't too many surprises.

Spotify Party of the Years

Spotify has revealed an all-encompassing version of its annual Wrapped roundups, which spans your entire listening history on the music streaming platform. The Party of the Year(s) encapsulates your all-time hits and your first listens – and it’s all to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Spotify. Wow, that’s enough to make a fella feel old, eh?

Spotify says the round-up offers never-before-shared date like your first day on the platform, the total number of unique songs you’ve listened to, the first streamed song, and your all-time most-streamed artist. There’s a playlist with your 120 top tracks, complete with the play counts. That can be saved to your library, and there’s the obligatory sharing stories at the end of it all.

It’s a nice little trip down memory lane, but it’s loaded with all the stuff I still listen to, to this day. I’m not particularly thrilled that the first song I streamed was Guns N’ Roses – Welcome to the Jungle. Pretty basic, right? I mean I love Guns, but I probably just downloaded the app to desktop and typed the first thing that came into my head to try it out.

I could have probably listed the top twenty songs if you really pressed me on it, and I totally knew Weezer is my top artist. They have been every year.

It did make me a little bit nostalgic for my earlier days of writing for tech websites, when the Spotify app first came out. We went around shooting video, marvelling at the fact your could walk around London choosing to listen to whatever we wanted without so much as a WiFi connection. Simpler times, when tech advancements still felt exciting – like they were about bettering the experience for consumers.

“Our editorial team also curated a selection of global playlists celebrating the defining eras, movements, and cultural shifts from the past two decades. You can find the playlists in the hub on Spotify,” Spotify says in a blog post. “The last 20 years have been defined by the fans who discover, the artists who shape culture, and the world that listens together. Here’s to the next 20—it’s all about you.”
