Samsung Smart TVs are finally fixing their most glaring feature omission

Samsung and Google have been forging closer relations in recent years, so it’s surprising that none of Samsung’s best TV models have supported support the Google Cast technology, which makes it easy to beam content from an Android phone or tablet to the best screen in the house.

It’s been a bummer for a long time, considering Google Cast is available on lower spec tellies from other manufacturers and Samsung has supported Apple’s AirPlay for half a decade. Many folks put it down to compatibility issues caused by Google using Tizen rather than Android TV as its operating system.

Anyway, late last month it emerged that Samsung was bringing the technology to its new 2026 smart TV sets out of the box, including the Crystal UHD TVs, Mini LED TVs, and Neo QLED TVs that are now up for grabs.

SamMobile spotted this on March 24, when it saw Google Cast listed within the specs for the television sets even though the feature wasn’t announced upon unveiling at CES 2026 in January. Now, it appears, Samsung is intent on rolling out the casting technology to existing TV sets in the range, from as far back as 2023. A new, free update is on the way to 2023 and 2024 models.

While Samsung is yet to officially announce the OneUI Tizen update, a Reddit user posted a picture of a new Continuity update on the S90D OLED telly that reveals Google Cast has been added to the feature set. Other users say it arrived a few months ago.

Once it lands on your set, you’ll be able to merrily stream from any app on your Android (or ChromeOS) device that supports the erstwhile casting technology. While not everyone on the Reddit thread has received the update yet, we’d suggest checking the software update section of the Samsung TV settings.

Earlier this week Google announced that Google Photos has now arrived on select Samsung TVs as part of the Daily Board widget. So it’s good news all round for those who like a bit of Google mixed in with their top notch Samsung visuals.
