Netflix raises prices in the US again, Premium now $27 a month

Netflix raises the prices of all of its tiers in the United States. Premium and Standard go up by $2 and the ad-supported tier will cost $1 more.

Life’s three certainties: Death, taxes and Netflix raising the prices more often than appears reasonable. The streaming service trailblazer is jacking up the prices of all tiers in the United States.

The Premium plan now costs a barely credible $27 a month plus whatever taxes are levied in your state. Essentially, you won’t get much change out of $30

The new $27 price is a $2 monthly increase on last year’s prices. The same amount is being tagged onto the Standard plan which goes up to $20 a month. It really doesn’t seem that long ago that Netflix represented half decent value at a tenner. If you want to pay that now you’ll need Standard with ads, which is also up a buck; from $8 to $9.

Netflix confirmed the increases in an email to TechCrunch, with new subscribers seeing the updated rates from today. Current subscribers will get a little grace period and will be informed by email when their monthly fee is going up. In the email, Netflix said the increases were designed to reflect the “wide range of entertainment” offerings.

So far the price increases only apply to the United States. However, seeing as subscribers in the UK last got their wallet dinged in February 2025, there’s a good chance they’ll be following their transatlantic cousins into streaming bankruptcy.

The move comes less than a month after the company gave up the ghost in its $80 billion plus effort to acquire Warner Bros. So the company isn’t exactly short of cash on the hip right now.
