Rumour – Amazon readying “five or six” new tablets

Staples president says new Kindle tablet range will include a 10-inch iPad competitor

We’re still waiting for Amazon to launch a tablet in the UK – the first generation Kindle Fire never made it across the pond – but it seems they might be like buses: you wait ages for one, then loads at once.

Demos Parneros, president of US retailer Staples, claims that Amazon has plans for a whole bevy of new tablet devices – five or six, in fact (we’d previously heard it might be two). He says that the new range will offer a variety of screen sizes, including 10 inches. So it seems Amazon may have a model going directly up against the almighty iPad.

Engadget also speculates that the range might include a smartphone, which would be a first for Amazon. We’ll keep our ear to the ground and let you know if we hear any more.
