Fully Charged: Apple Watch teardown, Telltale’s Marvel game, and Furious 8 confirmed

Let’s finish this week strong: here’s the tech and entertainment news you need this morning

iFixit’s Apple Watch teardown

If you’re not getting an Apple Watch today – and you’re someone who really, really wants an Apple Watch today – then this might be painful to see. Otherwise, carry on. iFixit, the site that’s always tearing into expensive and highly-coveted devices, is currently taking apart an Apple Watch Sport.

We say “currently” because as of this writing, the teardown is only partially complete: they’re updating it in real-time as they snap photos and analyze what they’re seeing beneath that curved Retina display. One early tidbit: the battery within (the 38mm model, at least) is only rated at 205mAh, which is quite a bit smaller than Android Wear smartwatches. However, our review testing didn’t turn up hugely concerning battery life issues.

By the time you read this, they may have found something truly shocking. More likely, they’ll just find more parts and then tell you how hard it’ll be to repair the thing yourself (probably very, very difficult). In any case, it’s worth a look to see the insides of this beautiful device.

Telltale is making a game with Marvel

Telltale is making a game with Marvel

Ever since breaking big with The Walking Dead, Telltale Games has become the go-to developer for making story-centric games based on big properties: see Game of Thrones, Borderlands, and Minecraft as key examples. And now, Marvel Comics.

The two companies announced the partnership yesterday, pegging 2017 as the year when the first game of their surely colourful union will take root on unspecified platforms. It sounds like more than one game (or likely, game series) will come out of this deal, although for now, all we have is a promise and some welcome excitement pouring out of it.

Furious 8 coming in 2017

You’re shocked, right? Furious 7, the seventh entry in the Fast & Furious action film series, has earned more than US$1.15 billion (about £765 million) in a few short weeks, making it the #7 highest-grossing film of all time. Now, star Vin Diesel has announced a release date for the sequel.

It’s reportedly hitting cinemas on 14 April 2017, and after launching a sports car from the upper floors of one skyscraper to another, they’ll have to find some way to top it the next time around. We don’t even want to speculate – we’d rather just watch with dumb looks on our faces in two years and enjoy the hell out of it then.

New Black Ops III teaser

Call of Duty: Black Ops III is coming in hot, with a full reveal promised this weekend, but Activision got the party started a little early yesterday with a new teaser – one that confirms another far-off future setting with some very grim elements. Still, this is a highly effective clip, one that hints at something more than drones and private military goons shooting each other to bits. That’s all it might actually amount to, but our interest is a little more piqued than expected, at least.
