EXCLUSIVE Sennheiser outs IE range of luxury in-ear headphones

Sennheiser has long been our favourite purveyors of replacements for crappy bundled buds. The CX400s have pleased many an ear and wallet in the Stuff Towers, but now a swanky trio of big brothers is set to join the Sennheiser clan.

Music tecchie types have enjoyed the aural pleasures of the Sennheiser IE 6, IE 7 and IE 8s for some time, but now the high-end in-ear beauties will be available to hoi polloi from Monday.

Sennheiser tell us that the IEs are constructed with a “dynamic single drive-unit and neodymium magnets”. Which, put simply, means the wide range, high sound quality and low distortion levels you’d expect on beefy over-the-ear counterparts.

There are three bud sizes to fit lugs of all shapes and sizes, detachable ear clips and Kevlar cables, which is just as well, as prices start from £120. Credit-crunch? What credit crunch?
