NFC contactless payment launches

06 Apr 2011

NFC technology has been a long-time coming and will finally be a reality as Salt Lake City is announced as first for trials. We didn't know where that was either – it's in America, apparently. The amalgamated infrastructure required between mobile operators and banks is managed by a company called Isis, the force behind the “mobile wallet”.

Isis hopes to have contactless recognition setup for all Utah transport systems by 2012. If this works and is – by some miracle – organised properly in the UK, we may never need a wallet again – all our details will be in one place. Thieves have never had it better.
