CES 2009 – LG flaunts 3G watch-phone

08 Jan 2009

This year's Dick Tracy award for attempt at a watch-phone goes to LG. Its new GD910 has built-in 3G and, with a scheduled 2009 release, might actually be the answer to one of our longest-held geek dreams. While previous attempts at watch-phones have been fiddly and annoying to use with dodgy little buttons, the LG gets around the issue by having a full touchscreen – albeit one at just 1.4in in size. Still, at only 84g it won't break your wrist, and LG has packed in voice recognition, text-to-speech (so it can read out your text messages), stereo Bluetooth and water resistance. Sadly, there's also a front-facing camera for video calls, should you wish to be mocked by the general public. LG hasn't let anyone slap it on their wrists yet, but it's due out in Europe some time this year. We'll give you a call as soon as we bag one.
