iPad 3 Retina Display going into production

Not only is the super high-resolution display confirmed but now we have a pretty solid release date

Apple’s iPad 3 is coming at last and will be packing a near Retina Display number of pixels. The 2048x1536px screen will be around the 10in mark (292ppi) and is being built by Samsung, Sharp and LG. We already heard rumours of the Retina Display tablet but now display research analyst Richard Shim has all but confirmed it in an interview with Wired.

Just as we found out Sharp has won the contract to make LCD screens for Apple’s new TV, this story arrived including Sharp in the manufacturers line-up – adding even more weight to its validity. Shim was so sure about production starting now that he says the iPad 3 will be ready by December for a January or February shipping – all confirming our stories pointing to a March 2012 release. Time to start converting those films into a higher resolution format from now on.
