We first heard Sony talking about Transfer Jet, the Near Field Communication standard, at the beginning of last year but now we’ve actually seen it in action.
Both Toshiba and Sony have been showing off the Transfer Jet system on laptops and phones at IFA 2009. At the Toshiba stand we were treated to a demonstration with an upgraded TG01 and Qosmio laptop. Snap a picture, place the phone on the Transfer Jet logo on the laptop’s palm rest and almost instantly the photo appears on the laptop screen.
It blitzes your pictures, video, music or other files from one device to another at a speed of up to 560Mbps. The first Toshiba laptops with Transfer Jet will be out in the first quarter of next year, while similar Sony devices will be coming “soon”. We did spy an X-series Walkman working with Transfer Jet, so it could be sooner than expected.
