The F1 Canadian Grand Prix is live on Apple TV and Netflix this weekend
Apple and Netflix agreed a deal to simulcast the race and practice this weekend.
The Formula 1 motor-racing season recommences this weekend with the Canadian Grand Prix. Usually viewers in the United States require a subscription to Apple TV to tune into the practices, qualifying sessions and the race itself, but this weekend Netflix subscribers will be able to steam the racing action.
As part of an accord with Apple, that involves the latest season of the hit Netflix reality show Drive To Survive being aired on Apple TV, the Canadian Grand Prix will be simulcast on both platforms this weekend.
Here’s the schedule:
Free Practice: Friday, May 22, 12 PM ET
Sprint Qualifying: Friday, May 22, 4 PM ET
Sprint: Saturday, May 23, 11 AM ET
Qualifying: Saturday, May 23, 3 PM ET
Race: Sunday, May 24, 3 PM ET
The first practice is underway as I write this, and it’s kind of cool seeing both the Apple TV and Netflix logos side by side. Netflix subscribers on any plan can watch, just like they can on Apple TV. The deal doesn’t apply to other territories, especially the UK where Sky Sports recently secured a deal to show F1 into the next decade.
It’s the only race that will be simulcast this year, but it’ll potentially bring a wider audience for any F1 race ever aired in the United States.
