The Apple MacBook Neo is official. Should Google Chromebooks be worried?

Apple’s new laptop debuts at $599/£599

MacBook Neo
MacBook Neo. So good, you’ll want to buy four. Or something.

Remember when the Mac mini showed up and blew everyone away with its $499 price? 21 years later, Apple’s just done much the same for budget laptops with the brand-new MacBook Neo.

Hot on the heels of the revamped MacBook Pro and MacBook Air (which have both just been refreshed with M5 silicon), the colourful new addition starts at $599/£599 – just over half the price off a MacBook Air.

Our editor, Dan Grabham, is at Apple right now and will give you the lowdown once he’s had a chance to check out this new entry in Apple’s Mac lineup.

MacBook Neo! And, no, we won’t be doing any Matrix puns here. Promise.

MacBook Neo specs

Although Apple’s new laptop undercuts pretty much any mobile Mac in its history, it’s still got solid specs, if your needs aren’t too demanding. Also, it moves on from entirely boring Mac colours with blush (pink), citrus (yellow/green) and indigo. Or you can be dull and order a silver one.

Here’s what you’ll get if you order one:

  • CPU: A18 Pro (6-core CPU, 5-core GPU)
  • Screen: 13in 2408×1506 LED at 219ppi with up to 500 nits brightness
  • Storage: 256/512GB
  • RAM: 8GB
  • Battery life: up to 16 hours
  • Camera: 1080p FaceTime HD
  • Audio: side-firing Spatial Audio dual speakers
  • Touch ID only on 512GB (+$100/£100 at $699/£699)
  • Connectivity: 2x USB-C (1x USB 3 and 1x USB 2), Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 6, and a headphone jack
  • External display support: built-in at native res + 1x 4K at 60Hz
  • Size: 29.75×20.64×1.27cm (11.71×8.12×0.5in), 1.23kg (2.7 pounds)

The MacBook Neo is up for pre-order now and will ship March 11, subject to availability.
