Alternative sources of energy aren’t always about wind farms and solar panels. Samsung has taken a step back and cooked up a laptop power expansion dock that runs on old-fashioned Methanol.In tests, the tech team at Samsung managed to run one of its laptops (the Q35, pictured) for five weeks, with eight hours usage per day. Despite the fact the fuel is normally used to power 750 horsepower F1-style racers, Samsung says the gizmo will make no more racket than a standard laptop.If all goes to plan, the super stamina add-on should be in production by the end of 2007, with a miniature, lower-powered version following soon afterwards. Just don’t look into what happens if these super-charged beasts ‘do a Sony’ and take to catching fire – it’s not pretty.
