We liked the idea of a knock-down Nikon to rank alongside its pricier pro models but at just six megapixels, the D40 did look a touch out of place amongst its eight and ten megapixel rivals.Well the good news (or bad news if you've just bought one) is that the baby Nikon is to get the upgrade it always dreamed of. Now dubbed the D40x, it gets a spangly new 10MP sensor and a few other nifty inducements. The minimum sensitivity has been lowered to a more standard 100 ISO and it'll now pap at a continuous three frames per second instead of two and a half (hey, it all helps). Battery life's been upped too, to around 520 shots per charge. All of which makes it a far better rival to the 10MP Canon EOS 400D. Bargain-hunters should still be able to find the original D40, though, as Nikon's calling this new cam a 'sister' model rather than a replacement. To see our video footage of the Nikon D40 in action, click here
