Nexus 9 tablet unveiling on Wednesday, with release expected on 3 November

The HTC-made device will reportedly be the first to carry Android L

We’ve seen various leaks about the next Google-backed Android tablet, but now it appears that an official debut and launch are imminent, with an announcement expected for today (Wednesday, 15 October).

Forbes says the Nexus 9 tablet, which is made by HTC under the codename “Volantis,” will be announced tomorrow in a blog post. Why such a quiet reveal? An event was apparently planned, but Android L isn’t quite ready to show its final form, so a subtler route was decided.

And the Nexus 9 will be the first to run Android L when it reportedly launches on 3 November, with pre-orders set to begin this Friday, 17 October. The 16GB base model is expected to sell for US$399, while a 32GB version with LTE connectivity will go for US$4.99.

According to Forbes, the 8.9-inch screen will have a 2K resolution of 2048×1440, with a dual-core 64-bit processor within (which matches up with the Tegra K1 leak we heard before), an Nvidia Kepler GPU, an 8MP shooter on the back, and a 3MP camera up front.

A brushed aluminum frame and two front-facing stereo speakers should feature prominently on the exterior, plus an origami-like magnetic case is slated to release alongside it.

If you’re eager for a powerful Android tablet (and today’s report proves correct on timing), be sure to keep an eye on this space tomorrow for the news.
