The HTC 10 might not be the One you’re looking for

Name change could be on the cards for new flagship

If the #powerof10 hashtag wasn’t a big enough clue, HTC’s got a new flagship phone in the works – but its name might not follow the usual pattern.

HTC has been teasing the new handset for weeks, despite it being a no-show at last month’s Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

We were expecting the One M10, but according to ex-EVleaks Evan Blass, HTC’s going with the far simpler HTC 10.

You heard it here first:

It would make a change from the naming conventions HTC has used since 2012, when it introduced the One.

That was known internally as the M7, and its successor became the One (m8). Last year’s One M9 dropped the brackets, and now it looks like HTC is going one step further for 2016.

It’s a lot easier to get your head around than all the codenames and numbers, and HTC is banking on it being friendlier to customers too.

Names aside, the phone is shaping up to be a bit of a beast.

Based on the latest rumours, the HTC 10 will have a 5.2in QHD screen with an OLED panel, Snapdragon 820 CPU, 4GB of RAM and a 12MP Sony camera.

That all sounds pretty juicy, but it’s going to need to be to take on the gorgeous Galaxy S7 Edge and the upgradeable LG G5.

Of course, nothing has been confirmed yet, so we’ll have to wait until HTC is ready to make everything official to see if its new flagship can score a perfect 10.
