We’re a little concerned that a huge CRT telly is still lurking in the corner of your lounge, so afford Hitachi this opportunity to lure you into the flat screen fraternity with these three bargainous efforts.

Sitting atop the 8000 Series tree is a 42in plasma by the name of 42PD8700. He’s got a rather special talent – a 1024x1080 display which is capable of displaying the more tasty flavour of hi-def, 1080i.

It’s not quite as well equipped in the ports department as Sony’s 46in newbie (see link below) with only one HDMI port, but there are two SCARTs, S-Video and composite outputs for Freeview boxes, camcorders and the like.

If that goes beyond the bounds of acceptability for your spouse, there are two smaller 37in and 32in LCDs in the range too. Both the 37LD8700 and 32LD8700 have lower res screens than their plasma bro (1366x768), but that’ll still be enough for 720p hi-def and they boast all the same portalage. No official prices for these two yet, but expect the 32-incher to come in below the £1000 mark.
