While others quietly wrote off DVD for its Blu-ray and HD DVD cousins, a number of the top-end component makers have been proving there is still life to be found in the old format yet.Throwing caution to the format war wind, the all-metal Marantz DV7001 gives both brands of hi-def disc the silent treatment and opts instead for the plain old digital versatile kind.A Faroudja processor handles the 1080p upscaling, which the Japanese maker reckons rivals anything available elsewhere. At 600 notes it’s going to have a hard time competing with some of the low end HD spinners now arriving but if you want to get the best out of your current DVD collection without blowing the budget, it might be just the ticket.
