Forget cheap, disposable tech – buy a watch that lasts forever this Black Friday

If you’re tired of gadgets that give up after a couple of years, why not get a mechanical watch this Black Friday?

Three luxury watches on a grey and blue background

If you’re tired of gadgets that give up after a couple of years, go for something that’s built to outlive your next upgrade cycle. A good mechanical watch doesn’t age out or slow down. It just keeps ticking. And right now, Black Friday is the best time to pick up something you’ll hand down rather than throw away.

You’ve got solid sales running at Goldsmiths, Chisholm Hunter, and Beaverbrooks. Between them, you’ll find something for every taste: dive watches, GMTs, dress watches, and plenty in between. The brands list reads like a greatest hits playlist too: TAG Heuer, Omega, Hamilton, Longines, and loads more.

My pick? The Hamilton Khaki Field Expedition. It’s usually £920, but Chisholm Hunter has it down to £782 with the BF15 code, which makes it a bit of a steal. I’ve been a fan since it launched. I love adventure watches and this sort of watch that feels ready for just about anything – hiking, travelling, or just getting through your week without fuss.

The 41mm stainless-steel case hits that sweet spot between tough and wearable. The black dial is clean and easy to read, helped along by a sapphire crystal that shrugs off scratches.

Inside, you get Hamilton’s automatic movement with an 80-hour power reserve, which basically means you can forget it on the dresser all weekend and it’ll still be running on Monday. It’s water-resistant to 100 metres, so rain, hand-washing, or an accidental dunk won’t send it to an early grave. The synthetic strap keeps things comfortable and practical, which is what this watch is all about.

Ultimately, the appeal is simple: it’s a proper mechanical watch you can trust for decades.

If the Hamilton Khaki Field Expedition isn’t your bag, do make sure to check out all of the watches on sale at Goldsmiths, Chisolm Hunter, and Beaverbrooks. I genuinely think it’s one of the best ways to spend your money on Black Friday.
