When we first caught sight of the sleek Asus Eee PC 1008HA, known the world over as the Shell, we were stunned. It took the classy S101 and bettered it with cracking design and specs to sate even the most scrupulous gadget fan.

And now, at last, we’ve got a price to match too. Those eagle–eyed chaps at Portable Monkey have found the Shell going for £379 at Amazon, with the black, red or white editions being sold for £399 at Laptops Direct.

Sadly, this is a preorder party, with a one to two month wait. That said, it’s well worth it. Tipping the scales at 2.4 pounds and measuring just 1in thick, it looks and feels like a 10in version of a certain slimline Apple device.

Obviously W–Fi and Bluetooth are on board, with a 3G or WiMAX option and that ubiquitous Intel Atom processor too.

We’re holding out for more news on an official release date, so while you wait see our hands–on with the swivelly Eee PC T91 at CES 2009.
