The Archos 604 WiFi has just ushered in a new era for portable players. We’d like to take this opportunity to invent a new three-letter acronym for future wireless players: PEEs (Personal Everything Evers). The latest in Archos's army of new players is like a Stuff wishlist made real. It’ll do everything that the previous 604 could, including playback of MP3, WMA (protected), AAC and AC3 music files and direct-from-TV or DVD recording with the optional DVR station, but also a host of things we were wondering if we’d ever see from an Archos.OnlineWe shouldn’t have doubted. The 30GB 604 WiFi can now be used to access webmail, surf the internet and even stream or download files over a wireless network, thanks to an 802.11g Wi-Fi connection. The possibilities boggle the mind. Future firmware upgrades include the ability to directly download from web-based music shops, support for SHOUTcast Internet radio, automatically download podcasts with Podcatcher, stream video with the installed Opera browser and even watch live TV via the web.Video on the move’s a tech hot potato and divides office opinion like no other – but even the most battle-hardened portable video-hater had to admit, they’d quite like one of these. Go forth and buy.
