5 of the best September festivals

There's still time to squeeze in a couple of days of music fun in the sun – we mean mud

Bestival 8-11th Sep

With a 'rock stars and pop stars' fancy dress theme judged by the Village People and real-life acts including Bjork, Primal Scream, Magnetic Man and Fatboy Slim, you won't have much time left over to spend in the Roller Disco Ballroom Field at this Isle of Wight festival.

Electric Picnic 2nd Sep

Stradbally Hall in County Laois, Ireland will be getting a visit from Arcade Fire, Pulp and The Chemical Brothers as well as lower key bands like Interpol and Beirut. We imagine some fans will be invited too.

End of the Road 2-4th Sep

Fans of folk, Americana and alt rock will be heading to this niche festival in Larmer Tree Gardens, Wiltshire over the first weekend of September for Mogwai, The Fall, Joanna Newsom and Gruff Rhys.

Scipmylo Comedy Festival 8-17th Sep

Scipmylo are throwing lots of East End parties in the run up to the London 2012 Olympic Games and one of the first is this comedy festival with snorts and giggles guaranteed from the likes of Josie Lawrence, Ed Byrne and more stand up than you can shake a javelin at. If you're wondering about the weird name: it spells Olympics backwards.

Jersey Live 3-4th Sep

No this isn't some kind of village fete but as Jersey doesn't often get a whole load of live music, you can join all the local kids going absolutely nuts. The upbeat line-up includes The Streets, Toddla T, Zane Lowe, Madness and Plan B.
