You’ll need to be quick as a flash to bag a Canon PowerShot G7 X Mark III 30th Anniversary Edition

Thanks to TikTok this limited-edition G7 X III is pretty much guaranteed to fly off the shelves

You might want to take a good look at the Canon PowerShot G7 X Mark III 30th Anniversary Edition (US$1299 / £860), because there’s a chance this is the closest you’ll ever get to one.

Canon’s standard G7 X III is already hard enough to get hold of, thanks in no small part to TikTokkers raving about it in between filming their silly little dances, so you’ll have to be very quick off the draw to bag one of these limited-edition versions.

As you should probably have guessed from the very long name, it marks 30 years since the original PowerShot 600 was released back in July 1996. That one was about the size of a morbidly obese rabbit and had a teeny 0.57MP sensor, but the PowerShot G7 X III has a 1in CMOS sensor that can shoot 20MP stills and 4K video, 4.2x optical zoom, a flip-up 3in touchscreen, and a built-in flash.

To set it apart from the standard one, the 30th Anniversary Edition has a lovely graphite finish, a textured pattern around the lens ring, and a special logo stamped on the pop-up flash, so you can prove it’s the real deal when you stick it on Ebay and make yourself a fortune.

Basically, it’s ideal if you run a YouTube channel about overweight pets, but also if you just want a point-and-shoot that’ll put your smartphone’s camera to shame. Only a limited number of the Canon PowerShot G7 X Mark III 30th Anniversary Edition will be available when it goes on sale in April and Canon hasn’t said exactly how many, so you’ll have to beat an army of influencers if you want to own one.
