Herman Miller’s gaming desk is the ultimate battlestation upgrade

Clever cable management, modular extras, and a gloriously over-engineered height dial? Yes please

Whether you’re rocking one of the best gaming laptops or a full-fat tower PC, it’s all too easy to neglect the desk they sit on. Enter Herman Miller’s new gaming desk – a gorgeous, if not eye-wateringly expensive upgrade that will elevate any home setup.

The company’s new Coyl standing desk is its first gaming desk designed fully in-house from the ground up, and its premium, pared-back Scandi aesthetic is a welcome change from the usual RGB strips and carbon-fibre stickers.

Visually, the standout feature is a bright red coiled cable running from the desk to the power outlet. It’s not there purely for aesthetics either – the coil keeps the cable tidy and taut as the desk moves up and down, instead of dangling awkwardly behind it.

The other rather nice detail is the height control dial. Rather than the usual standing desk buttons, Herman Miller uses a rotary knob inspired by old-school audio equipment, letting you fine-tune the desk height down to a tenth of an inch. There’s even a small built-in display showing the exact height setting.

Cable management is a huge focus, too. An optional trough hidden beneath the back of the desk is designed to swallow power strips, chargers, and the usual spaghetti cable nightmare lurking behind most gaming setups. You can also access it from the front while the desk is raised, which is another useful touch.

Elsewhere, there are integrated hooks for hanging headphones or bags, optional shelves and accessories, plus add-ons including controller mounts, cable clips, a planter, and phone holders.

The Coyl comes in black, white, ash, and walnut finishes, and while it’s obviously still expensive, that’s hardly shocking given the company’s heritage.

Interested? Herman Miller’s gaming desk starts at $1095 in the US, climbing to $1635 with the more fully loaded configuration that adds upgraded cable management and a rear pegboard-style shroud. UK pricing and release date information haven’t been confirmed yet.
