Tudor Ranger shrinks and gets a new dial option – now I think it’s perfect
Tudor’s Ranger finally lands in its sweet spot, with a new 36mm case and a clean Dune white dial – I think I'm in love
Tudor’s straightforward tool watch just fixed its only real flaw: choice. The Ranger, first returned in 2022 as a 39mm field watch, and, while I loved the design, I always felt it was a little too large for my wrist. From today, it now comes in a smaller 36mm case and with a crisp ‘Dune White’ dial borrowed from Tudor’s Dakar Rally partnership.
Honestly, this is the version I always hoped they’d make. The design finally feels balanced in a way that suits more wrist sizes without losing the no-nonsense character that makes the Ranger so appealing in the first place.
The smaller case is fully brushed steel and keeps everything that made the modern Ranger feel tough enough for real use. That includes the classic 3-6-9-12 Arabic numerals, the painted markers, and the chunky hands filled with bright Super-LumiNova that’s easy to read whether you’re in the desert at night or just finding your way home after dark.
On the white dial, the whole thing takes on a calmer, more desert-ready vibe. It’s inspired by Tudor’s partnership with the Dakar Rally, and it’s a permanent addition to the range, which is nice if you hate chasing limited runs.

Inside, nothing changes, and that’s a good thing. Both the MT5400 (36mm) and MT5402 (39mm) movements are COSC-certified, use a silicon balance spring, and are still good for 70 hours of power reserve. That means you can take it off Friday then put it back on Monday without touching the crown.
The T-fit clasp also stays too, which means quick micro-adjustments whenever the weather changes your wrist size.
What I’ve always liked about the Ranger is that, for all the talk of Dakar heat and North Greenland cold, the Ranger isn’t trying to be a macho adventure prop. It’s simple, legible and honest – the kind of watch you can wear daily without thinking about it.
I really am so glad about the new size. At 36mm, the proportions tighten up, the dial feels even cleaner, and the watch leans into its vintage roots without feeling nostalgic.
Of couse, if you have larger wrists than mine, the 39mm version sticks around too, now also available with the white dial, so nobody gets left out.
The new Tudor Ranger 36mm is available now on Tudor’s website, with prices starting at US$3350 / £2650 on the fabric strap, and US$3700 / £2930 on the bracelet.
