Apple expands its brilliant Apple Care One service – here’s how the UK and US versions differ

Apple Care One

Apple is bringing its AppleCare One service to the UK, Australia, France and Germany, having been available in the US since last year. You’ve always been able to protect your iPhone, Mac and iPad against loss, theft or accidental damage with Apple Care, but now you can protect three or more in one subscription.

In the US, the service costs $19.99 a month for three devices and you can add additional devices for $5.99.

In the UK, this costs £16.99 and £4.99 which – at current rates – represents a cheaper price than in the US. It’ll launch on 4 August and you’ll be able to sign up online or in store.

If you already have an AppleCare+ plan, or who recently purchased a new device, can sign up directly on their iPhone, iPad, or Mac.

Currently, you have to add an AppleCare+ plan within a 60-day window after purchase but with Apple Care One you can add products that are up to four years old provided they are in good condition – though you may need to have the device checked (headphones need to be less than a year old).

AppleCare One boasts the same benefits of AppleCare+, including repairs for accidental damage, battery replacement service, and priority support. You can have up to three theft or loss claims per year.

If you trade in an AppleCare One-covered product and buy a replacement from Apple, the old product is automatically removed from the plan and replaced with the new device. You can add or remove devices from your plan at any time.

All repairs are performed using genuine Apple parts at Apple Store locations and Apple Authorized Service Providers.

Apple has also rolled out AppleCare+ with Theft and Loss to iPad and Apple Watch in more locations, including the UK. The single-device plan option is now available for iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch and allows for up to two theft and loss incidents per year as well as accidental damage, though excess fees apply. You also get priority support and access to the battery replacement service.
