OnePlus explains what’ll happen to your phone after the company’s exit from Europe and North America

OnePlus isn't going to leave you hanging, but you are getting Oppo software on top of Android moving forward.

After sister brand Oppo confirmed what has felt inevitable for months – OnePlus is pulling out of the mobile markets in Europe and North America – OnePlus itself explained in detail what current fans can expect when it comes to existing devices.

The company says there will be no new product rollouts moving forward, as part of a “proactive global strategy adjustment” but promises to honour software and security updates for the remainder of the time committed for each device. Customer support channels will remain live and warranties will still be honoured too

OnePlus also confirmed that, as part of the Android 17 update, users will be moved over to the ColorOS user interface designed Oppo phones and away from the OxygenOS UI that powered OnePlus phones for the longest time. While the two Android skins have largely become interchangeable in recent years, this announcement makes it official, with OnePlus saying it’ll be a better use of the “shared engineering and R&D capabilities” of brands under the same umbrella.

The company said: “Though we will no longer launch new products in Europe, our commitment to you remains unchanged … existing OnePlus devices will continue to receive scheduled software updates and security patches within the support periods originally committed for each device model.”

In a blog post informing customers today, OnePlus’ community head Yash Jain wrote: “Today, our hearts are undoubtedly heavy and mixed with emotion. As part of the proactive global strategy adjustment, OnePlus has decided to conclude new product rollouts in Europe and North America.”

Jain went on to thank the company’s fans – considered among the most loyal in the Android realm – for their support with sharing ideas, offering feedback and fixing bugs.

They added: “Whether you’ve been with us since the early days or joined more recently, your contributions have helped define what the OnePlus Community stands for. Thank you for your support, your feedback, your creativity, and your belief in OnePlus over the years. It is because this bond is so precious and your trust so hard-won that we fully understand: in moments of change like this, what matters most to you is the ongoing care of the devices in your hands.”

The decision comes amid ongoing challenges in the smartphone realm pertaining to the RAM and storage crisis. Other companies – like Nothing, which was founded by a OnePlus founder – had postponed or cancelled releases on the premise that they cannot offer good value for money to consumers and make a profit at the same time. It would not be surprising to see more manufacturers reach the same conclusion.
