I tried the Dyson HushJet Mini Cool Fan – here are 6 things I loved about it

Dyson’s first portable fan is available later this month and can be used handheld, on your desk or round your neck

Dyson HushJet Mini Cool

Dyson launched its first bladeless fan, the Air Multiplier, 17 years ago and has been serving us honed airflow mastery ever since, but we’ve not seen a portable model, until now. I had the opportunity to get hands-on with the HushJet Mini Cool Fan ahead of its launch. Here are the things I liked about it the most.

1) Multi-functional

The HushJet Mini Cool Fan can be used handheld, on a desktop or even as a wearable, making it very versatile. It’ll be great for travel use, but also handy for summer day trips and general personal use.

2) Perfectly Formed

Look familiar? The new Dyson HushJet Mini Cool Fan uses the same 38mm slick stick casing as the Supersonic hair dryer and PencilVac. There’s no arguing that it’s a thing of great beauty and it weighs just 212g to boot. It’s available in Ink/ Cobalt, Carnelian/Sky and Stone/Blush finishes, all of which are good-looking colour combinations.

3) Powerful Cooling

Powered by a brushless DC motor spinning at up to 65,000 RPM, you’ll get airflow speeds of up to 25m/s. There are five speeds plus a boost mode for when times are super sweaty. Using the fan, I liked the different modes and could see it would be useful on a constant gentle airflow while I work on hot days and on boost for a refreshing blast when overheating.

4) Pitch Perfect

The HushJet nozzle you see on the new fan is an important piece of the fan’s engineering as it’s allowed frequencies to be lowered. When I used it, I couldn’t hear any high-pitched whirring, or indeed whining. Hurrah.

5) Super Charger

The Dyson HushJet Mini Cool Fan charges via USB‑C, with its battery lasting 6 hours on a full charge, which takes 3 hours. It comes with a USB‑C charging cable, charging stand, neck dock and travel pouch.

6) Mother Lover

I got hands-on time with a preproduction model of the HushJet Mini Cool so I didn’t get to see the range of optional add‑ons that will be available. However, I am excited about the confirmed universal mount that’ll fasten to pushchairs, as well as other items. When my son was younger, I brought a range of buggy fans and wasn’t happy with any of them, so I can see this filling a gap in the market. I also think the grip clip, that’ll attach the fan to bag straps and jackets will be popular.

The Dyson HushJet Mini Cool costs $99/£100 and is available in late April.
