New Ring Battery Doorbell Pro adds 4K, 10x zoom and faster charging
New Battery Video Doorbell models offer 4K and 2K options, while optional solar chargers will reduce the need to remove the battery
Amazon owned Ring has announced new versions of its battery-powered video doorbells that support 2K and 4K video for the first time. The battery-powered options are great for those who don’t have the option to hard wire the doorbells, but until now users have been limited to 1080p HD.
That changes today with the top end Battery Doorbell Pro update adding “Retinal” 4K video and a 10x enhanced zoom. Now you don’t have to sacrifice video clarity – day or night – for a more convenient installation.
The quick release battery is also the fastest to charge, meaning you’ll miss the minimum possible time monitoring outside your home (or spying on neighbours on behalf of ICE depending on who you choose to believe at this point). The $250/£220 Battery Video Doorbell Pro (2nd Gen) is available to prep-order now.
If you don’t need 4K, you can save a few bob with the Battery Video Doorbell Plus (2nd Gen) which offers 2K video and a new quick release battery pack. It costs $180/£130.
Even more can be saved with the Battery Doorbell (2nd Gen) which promises 2K and 6x enhanced zoom. There’s no quick release battery, but there is a streamlined rechargable design. That model costs $100/$80.
The company is adding an integrated solar charger ($50/£TBC) which is sold separately. That promises “continuous power across the battery line up.” Joining the new models is a Ring AI Pro subscription. Here’s what subscribers can expect:
- Get Video Descriptions that summarize motion activity in plain language, so you can understand what happened without watching the full clip.
- Access Video Search using keywords like “person,” “package,” or “car” to find specific moments faster.
- Review recorded events for longer with up to 180 days of video history, making it easy to revisit important moments.
- Use Extended Live View to stay connected to what’s happening in real time for longer.
