Apple’s folding iPhone may have just leaked. Here’s what it might look like
CAD renders show Apple’s rumoured iPhone Fold with a dual-camera bump and an unusual hinge layout
Apple’s long-rumoured folding iPhone – future contender for our list of the best folding phones – may have just revealed a little more of its design – at least if a fresh leak doing the rounds online is to be believed.
Leaker Sonny Dickson has shared on X what appear to be 3D CAD rendering files of the rumoured iPhone Fold, giving us a clearer idea of how Apple’s first foldable handset could be shaped.
The images, highlighted by 9to5Mac, show the rear of the device with a raised camera plateau similar in style to the iPhone Air – though this version appears to house two cameras rather than one.
The files also hint at an unusual layout. Two corners of the phone appear rounded, while the other two look squared off – seemingly to accommodate the hinge mechanism used when the device folds.
Other images show the device in its unfolded state, where a small dot in the top-left corner of the internal display appears to mark the position of the front-facing camera.
The renders also show the phone both open and closed, including what looks to be an outer display that would allow the device to function more like a regular iPhone when folded shut.
None of this confirms Apple’s final design, of course. CAD files like these often circulate months ahead of a product launch and are typically used by accessory makers preparing cases and other hardware.
Still, the design broadly lines up with what previous rumours have suggested about Apple’s first foldable iPhone.
Reports over the past year have pointed to a book-style foldable design, similar in concept to Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold range. The device is expected to open out into a larger tablet-like display, while still offering a smaller outer screen for quick tasks.
Some rumours also suggest that the inner display could measure around 7.8 inches, roughly approaching the size of an iPad mini, while the outer display may sit closer to 5.5 inches.
Apple is believed to have been working on foldable devices for several years, though the company has so far avoided entering the category dominated by Samsung, Motorola, and a growing number of Chinese manufacturers.
Exactly when Apple might unveil its first folding iPhone remains unclear, though several reports suggest it could arrive sometime in the 2026 launch cycle. Until Apple says otherwise, though, all of this remains firmly in rumour territory.
