Tim Cook confirms ‘big week’ of Apple launches, drops mega MacBook hint

Apple CEO Tim Cook has spoken ahead of Apple's March 4 event. And it looks like new MacBooks will be the star.

Apple CEO Tim Cook has confirmed the company is preparing for a “big week” of launches, prior to the in-person event scheduled for next Wednesday, March 4. In a tweet on Thursday, Cook all-but-confirmed new MacBook laptops are part of the launch event, with a brief video showing a hand shaping a grey Apple logo on a silver background. That sure sounds like a preview of a MacBook to us, given those are the traditional colours of the erstwhile notebook range.

The first of the announcements will commence on Monday morning, Cook confirmed. If we were to bet, around 10am local time might be when the press releases go out. That’s 1pm eastern and 6pm UK time. And if we to bet further, the MacBooks will be the first products announced.

“A big week ahead. It all starts Monday morning! #AppleLaunch” Cook write in the post on February 26.

Apple is reportedly planning a pair of distinct MacBook models, including a lower cost replacement for the MacBook Air M1, only carrying an iPhone-style A18 Pro chip. That’s reportedly nailed on for next week.

The second is a MacBook Pro with a touchscreen OLED display and the M5 series processor. That would be an epochal event as Apple has long resisted the idea of a touchscreen MacBook, guiding people to the iPad and Magic Keyboard combination. It may not arrive until later this year.

The company may also launch a MacBook Pro with the M5 Pro and M5 Max chip which would essentially make them the most powerful MacBooks ever made.

We may see the MacBook Air upgraded to the base M5 chip too, which will be the laptop I upgrade to this year. Also on deck is the iPhone 17e, which will include MagSafe charging as the key upgrade, if recent reports are to be believed.
