Humax Aura EZ offers the best of both TV worlds

With both streaming skills and digital tuners the Humax Aura EZ means you’ll never be stuck for something to watch

Streaming live TV is all well and good but what if your Wi-Fi goes down during a particularly nail-biting episode of Deal or No Deal? That’s where the Humax Aura EZ (£249) comes in.

As well as Freely support, which allows you to stream more than 60 live channels over the internet as if you’re watching ‘normal’ TV, it has three digital tuners onboard so if your router throws a wobbly at the crucial moment you can carry on watching the old-fashioned way.

There’s also 2TB of storage inside, so if your favourite episode of Midsomer Murders is on the other side you can still record it and watch it as many times as you want. In fact, you can record as many as four separate channels at once while watching a fifth.

Freely has pretty much all the usual terrestrial channels you’d get with a Freeview box, so as well as all the BBC, ITV and Channel 4 options there’s also Dave, Talking Pictures, PBS America, and Food Network, plus it has GB News to ensure morons have something to watch too. The full suite of BBC radio stations is also there.

Once your Wi-Fi has had a word with itself you can use the catch-up apps to stream in 4K HDR (where available). Humax is also working on an Aura EZ app that’ll let you schedule recordings remotely.

The Humax Aura EZ seems like the ideal TV box for households that span the generations, catering for both those who are happy to stream everything and also people who prefer to watch things like the old days. Now, what time is Deal or No Deal on?

About

Stuff's second Tom has been writing for the magazine and website since 2006, when smartphones were only for massive nerds and you could say “Alexa” out loud without a robot answering. Over the years he’s written about everything from MP3s to NFTs, played FIFA with Trent Alexander-Arnold, and amassed a really quite impressive collection of USB sticks.
