A very unusual boxing match will take place this weekend between pro boxer Anthony Joshua and YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul. And it’ll be available for you to stream.
The match-up between the former Olympic gold medallist, two-time unified heavyweight world champion and YouTuber Paul is certainly unusual but as you’d expect, huge amounts of money is at the heart of the reason the bout is taking place – and Paul’s huge social following of course.
Jake Paul vs Anthony Joshua – when is it happening?
The fight is taking place on December 19, 2025 in Kaseya Center, Miami, Florida. There are reports that the bout couldn’t have taken place in Joshua’s native UK as it wouldn’t have been sanctioned by the body in control of British boxing.
How can I watch the bout?
The fight will be streamed live on Netflix. It will be available globally at 8 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. PT on December 19 and is included in all Netflix plans. Netflix describes the fight as this: “The matchup unites Paul, the sport’s most-watched fighter whose showmanship has redefined modern boxing and shattered records at every turn, with Joshua, one of boxing’s most accomplished, respected, and feared punchers — a global icon who twice unified the heavyweight division and has headlined sold-out stadiums across the UK and beyond.”
Is this a ‘proper’ fight?
Yes. This is a professional bout (under Queensberry rules) scheduled for 8 rounds, with 3-minute round. 10 oz gloves will be used. It’s not an exhibition bout as some have speculated.
Pundits think there is a clear disparity in ability between the boxers and there could be issues for Paul for his long-term well-being according to pundit Andy Clarke. Of course, he could also benefit if he puts up a good fight, especially against a well-known champion like Joshua.
Of course there is the risk of reputational harm to Joshua’s legacy as well should he be beaten. Promoter Frank Warren was also disparaging of the fight taking place. However, there is a suggestion that the profile of the fight could help Joshua.
Is there a catch?
There is a stipulation on Joshua’s part and that is that he must weigh no more than 245 lbs for the fight.
